For what age groups do you offer classes?

We offer classes for children ages 18 months to 18 years.  We have offered adult programs in the past, but at this time do not have a program in place.

 

What type of dances do you teach?

We offer classes in tap, classical ballet, jazz, hip hop and cheerleading.  We also offer lyrical and pointe for students with experience and participation in our company.

 

Where are you located?

Steps by Stephanie is located at 1112 MacArthur Drive in Alexandria, Louisiana.  We are located next to Raising Cane's Chicken.

 

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes, we offer private lessons.  Stephanie charges $50 per hour of instruction.  Semi-private instruction and team coaching is also available.  Scheduling a private lesson or team instruction must be scheduled with Ms. Stephanie.

 

Do you have a recital or any other special performances?

We have an annual recital at the end of April.  We also perform throughout Cenla at various fairs and events.  If an event or fair would like to schedule us to perform they must speak with Ms. Stephanie in advance.

 

What are your fees?

Fees are as follows:

$45 a month for 1 hour classes

$40 a month for 45 minute classes

$30 a month for 30 minute classes

 

Students receive a $10 discount for each additional class

Families receive a $10 discount for each additional child

 

Do you have a competition group?

We do have a competition group that auditions in August.  They perform throughout Cenla serving as the official dance company of Steps.  They participate in competitions held throughout Louisiana.  If someone is interested in joining company, they must speak with Ms. Stephanie.

 

Are classes determined by skill or age?

We use both factors to determine class placement.  Most recreational classes are exactly that, recreational (FUN)!  Skill is attained.  We base our decisions on class placement mostly on age and making a child feel comfortable.  However, each child is considered as individual and placement is derived upon each child.  If a student is extremely advanced, we can place them accordingly.

 

What is your philosophy of dance?

We believe that dance extends far beyond just what is learned as a skill.  We believe dance creates a self-confident individual with the character and ability to work hard at setting goals and achieving them.  Our teaching philosophy is centered on instilling a passion for dance while building self-esteem and confidence in EVERY child.

 

What is the experience of your staff?

Stephanie Laborde is the owner / director and teacher.  She is a certified early childhood teacher who has experience in the Rapides parish school system and the Diocese of Alexandria school system.  She is a member of the Professional Dance Teachers Association.  She has taught dance throughout the community for the past 10 years and opened Steps by Stephanie in 2003.  She coaches several high school dancelines and cheerleading squads throughout Louisiana with private camps as well as routine choreography.  She also has choreographed for several Ms. Louisiana contestants as well as the Junior Miss Program.  Past students have gone on to become cheerleaders and dancers at LC, ULM, NSU and LSU.

 

Is there a uniform for class?

We do have a uniform consisting of  Steps by Stephanie leotard, tan tights and either black or red ballet skirts, shorts or pants.  Items may be purchased at Steps by Stephanie.  Shorts, skirts or pants may also be purchased at other retailers.

 

Do you sell any dance clothing or shoes?

We do have a selection of dance attire and shoes to purchase for special order.  We do not carry items in stock, but can order them.  See shipping costs.

 

Is it too late to register for classes?

A student can register at any time for a class as long as there is an opening in the class they would like.  Depending on costume availability, a student may sign up after January and still be able to participate in recital.  If a student would like to be in a class, but it has filled - they may be placed on a waiting list and be contacted if a place opens up.
